Canale 50

Background

Founded in Pisa in 1984, Canale 50 is a TV broadcaster via digital terrestrial throughout the Tuscan territory and online, with a daily production of news and a wide range of entertainment programs ranging from social news to sport.

Challenges

In 1998, Canale 50 began digitalization of business processes and functions. Aiming to address this transformation, it decided to adopt a Windows® Server-based database that relied on external storage. However, this initial configuration soon failed to meet the growing data storage needs of Canale 50. Indeed, Canale 50 required continuous data access, scalable storage capacity, and a high level of protection to securely and efficiently manage their data.

Solution

By adopting QNAP NAS solutions, along with consultancy and support from Labtec (QNAP’s partner), Canale 50 gained immediate access to data, expanded its storage capacity, and implemented secure backup practices into its operational routine. In addition, the integration of NAS systems has facilitated data transfer between various business departments and remote production centers, avoiding the use of external storage media – all thanks to the implementation of an infrastructure where the NAS has been configured with proprietary FTP and is used on VLAN (Virtual LAN) that allows different applications/activities to be separated.

Today, Canale 50’s central storage has been fully migrated from a Windows® Server-based system to QNAP's TS-h1277XU-RP NAS , with 120 TB of capacity. The TS-855eU system is used for backup and disaster recovery, while the TVS-471 NAS performs as an FTP server.

Result

QNAP's NAS solutions have transformed Canale 50 workflows, delivering reliability, dramatically increasing storage capacity and application performance, and ensuring efficient disaster recovery. Thanks to the collaboration with Labtec - managed by Fabio Campo, CEO of Labtec - the project was a success that the efficiency and productivity of the broadcaster has been significantly improved!
